The Airvaudais villages
What makes Saint Jouin de Marnes so very interesting is its church. It is one of the jewels of the art “roman Poitevin”.
Small town character in the heart of Deux-Sevres, the town of Airvault developed during the period of the Middle Ages.
Boussais has 399 inhabitants and an area of 1972 hectares. A small, simple villa was built in the early eleventh century but the town grew and there was even a castle in the town. (This was destroyed by its owner in 1946 because he could not pay his taxes)
This small village was named Ydriacus in 971. Irais first visible signs of human settlement was the building of the church dedicated to St. Paul, in the twelfth century when a small monastery existed.
Situated in the valley of the river Dive, it gives the village the special charm of Marnes which has an interesting heritage. There are currently 259 inhabitants in an area of 1700 hectares.
